Asus Rt-n16 Router Setup

The Asus RT-N16 router is designed specifically for high-performance data transmission of up to 300Mbps. The router has a single operating frequency of 2.4 GHz along with five ports (4 LAN and 1 WAN). The multi-function router also works well with 3rd party and open-source firmware.The Asus RT-N16 router comes with three antennas, a WPS button, a Restore button, and a USB 2.0 interface.

Inside the Asus router box, you will find the following:

  • The router support CD and other utilities
  • Ethernet cable
  • Quick Setup guide

Let us now proceed with the actual setup for the Asus RT-N16 router.

There are two ways in which you can perform the router setup.

  • Wired Setup
  • Wireless Setup

(NOTE: We recommend that you choose the wired setup during the initial configuration so that you can avoid issues due to wireless signal loss.)

  • Place the router next to your modem.
  • Connect an Ethernet cable between the modem and the router.
  • Have an extra Ethernet cable and connect it between your computer’s LAN port and one of the four ports in the router.

(Note: The Asus router has a web Graphics User Interface allowing you to configure the router using the computer’s web browser)

  • Open the default browser on your computer.
  • Since we have the cable attached between the computer and the router, the Asus login page will open automatically.
  • You will see the router IP address in the address bar, and on the page, you will find the fields to fill in the username and the password.
  • Enter admin for both username and password and click the OK button.

You can use the Quick Internet Setup (QIS) to configure the internet connection for your router easily.

  • Click on the Network Map tab on the left side of the router page.
  • In the Internet Status section, click the GO button for the Quick Internet Setup option.
  • Choose the connection type from the options: Dynamic IP, PPPoE, PPTP, L2TP, and Static IP.
  • You will now come across a screen which asks you to add a unique name (SSID) and a network key.
  • Enter the SSID and the network key.
  • Click the Apply button.
  • Once done, the internet connection and the wireless settings will be displayed.
  • Click the Next button and then click Finish.
